Research Guides

Welcome to the Library!

Welcome to the Drew University Library! This guide will walk you through all the unique features the Library has to offer.

Resources

Printing

Color and B/W printers are available, on the main floor of the Library, for use by Drew Community Members. We strongly encourage you to allow plenty of time (i.e. not right before class) to print any materials you may need.

  • You may print from the computer stations (next to the printers) or from your personal computer.
  • Instructions for adding this printer to your computer are available here on the "Printing with ePRINTit" UKnow page.
  • Printing does not work from phones or flash drives.

If you have any questions about printing, please contact University Technology (UT) by either visiting the UT Helpdesk on the first floor of the library, or emailing helpdesk@drew.edu.

Computer Helpdesk

The University Technology Helpdesk provides walk up services for computer problems, and also accepts appointments for equipment pickup/drop-off. Service updates, hours and contact information are available on the UT website.

Library Computers

In the Academic Commons area of Level C (the library’s main floor), several PC and Mac computers are available for use by Drew University patrons only. Login-required computers are restricted to Drew users, and have Microsoft Office Suite installed. Users are able to access other Drew software via CloudPC. For information about using CloudPC, visit the CloudPC UKnow page.

There are also two PCs available for limited general public usage.

Scanning

A scanning station is available in the Academic Commons area of Level C (the library’s main floor), and users are able to send scans to either a USB device or their Google Drive. For distance students, some limited scanning of materials by Library staff may be available. Email reference@drew.edu for more information.

Individual and Group Study Spaces

Individual and Group study spaces are available throughout the library. Students may request/reserve study spaces online or in person, and pick up keys at the Circulation Desk.

For more information on other departments housed within the Library, please visit the links below:

In addition to the resources available to all other Drew University students, those enrolled in programs through the Caspersen School of Graduate Studies have access to the following:

There are many public study carrels and tables throughout the Library.  The Library also offers a limited number of day carrels to any Drew student for private study; day carrels can be checked out at the Circulation/Reserve counter.  Assigned carrels and lockers are  allotted to qualifying students and faculty engaged in extensive Library-based research. Applications are available at the Circulation Counter.  Refer to Eligibility Guidelines for Carrels, Lockers and Group Study and to Policies and Procedures for Study Carrels and Lockers for more information.

Doctoral Study Lounge

The Doctoral Study Lounge is located off the Pilling Room on Level E. Access is by swipe (ID) card. The Lounge is open for doctoral students only.

Interlibrary Loan

While the Library's collection of digital and physical resources is extensive, it is quite likely that you may need an item that the Library does not own. In these instances the Library, on behalf of the patron, will reach out to its network of partner libraries and attempt to provide access to the requested materials.

Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a service by which Drew students, faculty and staff can submit requests to borrow materials not held by the Drew Libraries.  Users can request journal articles, books and book chapters.

  • You can submit an interlibrary loan request directly from our databases, through Worldcat, or by going to the InterLibrary Loan system directly.
  • Before submitting a request, please check the Drew Library Catalog for books or Journal List to be sure that the material is not available here. Ask a librarian for help if you're not sure.
  • You may also submit an ILL request directly through Worldcat and many of our other electronic databases. Look for the link that says “Request an Interlibrary Loan” in the item record.
  • ILL can usually obtain items without a fee, but Overdue and Late Pickup fines are in effect.
  • Note: Books may take up to 2 weeks to arrive. Articles may arrive more quickly (sometimes the same day!) but please allow at least 5 business days for arrival. Average turnaround time for articles is 2.4 days; for books, 8 days)

A complete guide to using this borrowing system (called Rapido), as well as how to submit a variety of these requests, and the rules for doing as, can be found below.

Zotero

Zotero is a free citation management software that allows you to collect, organize, cite, and share the sources that you come across in your research. It can be used as a browser add-on (Firefox, Chrome, Edge, or Safari), a desktop application (Windows, Mac, Linux, or iOS), or a plugin (Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and more).

Be sure to check the Drew Library Events Calendar for upcoming Zotero Workshops!

Endnote Online

Endnote Online is a web-based version of the classic citation manager software Endnote. It allows you to collect, track, and manage the citations for articles you're using for papers or research, and to output those citations in any citation style. It helps manage your bibliographic needs, including organizing sources and citations by project, sharing citations for group work, and "citing while you write" (inserting citations into papers while writing).
