Choosing Your Search Tool

Search tools generally vary basically in two different ways:

  • What their subject focus is.
  • Whether or not they are primarily full-text.

Indexes:

Narrower results, but often more relevant

Full-Text:

Broader results, less focused.

Much higher granularity, good for identifying theoretical approaches, or for criticism of a specific poem or short work.

General

Helpful for beginning research, and for interdisciplinary topics
