Welcome to DSEM!

Welcome, first years! This guide is home to all things DSEM.

DSEM Library Day 2025

What is Library Day?

Library Day is a workshop event for first-year DSEM students. It will offer students an early introduction to the library, familiarizing them with the space, resources, and librarians.

During the Session:

Students will be divided into groups and then rotate through a series of stations around the library. Particular attention will be paid to discovering, accessing, assessing, and ultimately using various forms of academic/scholarly materials. Stops along the tour will provide instruction and demonstration, including:

  • A Show-and-Tell of various types of physical materials, highlighting how knowledge is organized in ways that exceed the screen
  • Use of the Library Catalog (roughly, books and physical media)
  • Use of ScholarSearch (roughly, databases and articles)

In preparation:

For the students to get the most from the session, we are asking that they arrive at the library prepared with two or three search terms or keywords related to the topic of their DSEM. Some examples include:

  • Prominent figures or scholars
  • Key concepts or theories
  • Significant events
