SOC 101: Introduction to Sociology: Finding Contexts Articles

Summary of Process

Although straightforward, this assignment takes several steps, outlined here:

  1. Find the journal Contexts by going to Research Resources on the Library website.  Click "Journal Finder" under the main search box on the webpage. Enter "Contexts" in the Journal Finder search box. 
  2. Find and click the link for the "HSS Package 2022" under the Contexts entry.
  3. Select an any Contexts issue published since 2017.
  4. Locate the "In brief" section in the list of contents for your selected issue.
  5. Once you locate it, skim the entire "In Brief" section and identify a topic of interest from the subheadings. Read about the topic carefully and note any information related to the original research, e.g. the journal titile and/or the author(s).
  6. Return to Research Resources on the Library website, and click "Advanced Search" under the ScholarSearch box at the top of the page.
  7. Enter the journal title and the author's name in separate search boxes. Next to the search boxes, select the appropriate label for the search terms from the drop down menu, e.g. AU author, SO journal title/source. 
  8. Examine the results and select the article that matches the info from "In Brief" summary, including the correct year of publication. Get the full-text of the article and download it.
