Dear Students:

Your task is to find a number of sources to help you write a brief paper on a subject related to the work you've done in this course. By now, you've surely noticed that the Baroque is a rather complex subject. You'll be looking for:

• Reference Sources/Background
• Books
• Journal articles

The "baroque" is often referred to in our search tools as "early modern" or "16th century" "17th century"  and sometimes "18th century*

We'll be looking at  ways to find 

• Reference works in Art
• Library Catalog, to find books
• Art journal databases, to find articles*
• combined subject database Scholarsearch [surveying Historical Abstracts and ATLA Religion Index, among others]*

However, not everything we need can be found by these methods, so we may need to go 'outside'-- using

• Worldcat for books Drew doesn't own-- we can get these through ILL
• Google Scholar to search by keywords and natural language

This guide also includes information about 

• Zotero Bib (Zbib) -- a way to track the sources you find and generate a draft of citations
• ArtStor-- a helpful database of art images, contributed by art scholars and museums.

The most important thing to remember, though, is that the Library Staff are here to help. A lot of baroque topics are going to take specialized searching, so don't be afraid to ask at the Research Helpdesk. We are trained stunt librarians and will be able to help you hunt out sources on your topics.
