MCOM 301: Media Theory and Research: Find Background

Background Sources

Encyclopedias and dictionaries can be particularly helpful when you're starting your work.  They provide:

  • Overviews of topics.
  • Bibliographies of recommended works.
  • Quick definitions of unfamiliar terms.

Some possibilities include:

If you need background from another discipline - historical context, information from a different field, etc. - go to Resources by Subject, select the relevant discipline, and check for encyclopedias or background sources.
