ESS 400: Capstone Seminar: Find Reports and Government Documents

Find Reports and Government Documents

Both governmental bodies (municipal, county, state and federal) and organizations produce useful research and reporting - with the caveat that you need to be aware of any specific perspective that the entity may have.  (In Florida, for instance, employees of the Department of Environmental Protection were told in 2014 that they may not use the phrase "global warming.")

Use Google to search for your topic, and restrict the search to governmental or organizational sites:

  • "environmental health" site:.gov or "environmental health" site:.nj.gov
  • "carbon footprint" OR "carbon dioxide mitigation" site:.org

Think tanks that provide policy recommendations and reports can also be useful sources.  Be a little wary - they will sometimes represent a specific political perspective that may need to be taken into account.  A good set of links is provided by Harvard:
